Native plant nursery in Sacramento will close after opening last year. When’s the last day
A downtown Sacramento nursery specializing in native plants will close at the end of August.
Mother Natives, located at 2311 S St., will have their last event Friday the business said in an Instagram post. The shop opened in February 2022 and recently had a re-opening at the beginning of August.
The shop offered a variety of native plants on a weekly rotating schedule, with selections including creeping mountain lilac, California hibiscus, sage and monkey flower.
Fostering a natural garden requires less water as well as fewer fertilizers and pesticides which reduces pollution in our waterways, according to the shop’s website.
“This is pretty bummer news for our city, and I know this is going to upset a lot of folks,” it wrote about the closure on its Instagram. “... Most businesses close within two years of opening and I so badly did not want to be a part of that statistic.”
The Bee couldn’t reach Mother Natives for immediate comment.
According to the post, while the nursery is closing, the business will continue to do consulting for sustainable landscape design. It will be taking more clients and is now offering appointments outside of the Sacramento area. Customers can reach out for a consultation online.
