Semitruck crashes, blocks I-80 lanes near Davis. Traffic diverted at Mace Boulevard

Traffic Alert

A truck carrying 27 tons of gravel overturned and blocked traffic traveling eastbound Thursday on Interstate 80 near Davis, authorities said.

The California Highway Patrol Woodland office said its first report of the truck turned over on its right side at Mace Boulevard and blocking all lanes came in around 9:45 a.m. There were no injuries reported.

During preliminary investigation, it appeared the cause of the crash was an unsafe turning movement, according to CHP Woodland spokesman Officer Rodney Fitzhugh.

The Davis firefighters and police were called to the scene, according to CHP. Officers assisted in diverting traffic off the freeway.

Fitzhugh said at noon that I-80 at Mace Boulevard was expected to remain closed for several hours, jamming up traffic coming from the Bay Area into the capital region.

“It was a gravel truck carrying 27 tons of gravel,” Fitzhugh said. “They have a bit of mess to clean up.”
