’Not illegal’: Sacramento police find decommissioned fire truck seen driving around the city
Sacramento police have found an unmarked fire truck after the Sacramento Fire Department called attention to it, asking for the public’s help to locate it.
In a social media post Friday afternoon, the Sacramento Police Department said it had found the owner of the truck and had alerted him to the violations that needed to be corrected before it could be roadworthy.
“The fire truck is not stolen, and it is not illegal for individuals to own a decommissioned fire truck,” the Police Department said.
Sacramento police said the fire truck is legal to drive once the owner obtains the proper license endorsements and corrects equipment violations.
The unmarked Type 1 fire engine grabbed attention after the Sacramento Fire Department published a social media post asking for the public’s help in finding it.
“It has been brought to our attention that there is an unmarked fire engine driving around the city flowing water at various locations,” firefighters said in a social media post. “This is NOT one of our pieces of equipment.”
Photos provided by the department show an older model engine without any identifying markings.
