‘Roller coaster’ weather heads for Sacramento as heat returns. When will it cool down?
Sacramento will be “riding the temperature roller coaster this week” according to the National Weather Service.
This week, interior Northern California will see warming temperatures through Thursday before a steep drop-off headed into the weekend, the weather service posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Across the Sacramento and Northern San Joaquin valleys, and portions of the Delta, temperatures will reach between 89 to 94 degrees on Thursday, said Katrina Hand, a weather service meteorologist.
After temperatures peak on Thursday, temperatures will begin to drop. By Monday, the region will be around 19 degrees cooler.
Sunday and Monday temperatures are forecast in the Valley between 70 and 77 degrees, according to the weather service.

In Sacramento County, the high on Thursday will be between 90 and 92 degrees, Hand said, making it the hottest day of the week.
On the same day last year, the temperature high that was logged at Sacramento Executive Airport as 89 degrees, Hand said, which is comparable to this year’s high.
However, the climatological normal for this time of the year in Sacramento is cooler.
“For Sacramento Executive Airport the normal max temperature for this time of year is generally the upper 70s”, Hand said. “So we will be trending above normal as we warm up this week.”
Sacramento weather forecast
Temperature highs will be in the high 80s to 90s this week, according to the weather service five day forecast, and lows will dip into the high 50s.
The weather service advises that people keep an eye on the forecast with the fluctuating temperatures, and prepare for the warming and then cooling of the weather, Hand said.
Come Saturday, temperatures will begin to cool of in Sacramento reaching 77 degrees, according to the weather service forecast.
