Rain possible in Northern California this weekend as temps drop. Will it snow in Tahoe?

weather update

Summer doesn’t last forever — though, it certainly tried.

Ninety-degree temperatures this week in Sacramento — above normal for this time of year — are about to break as a cooler weather system brings possible rain showers and thunderstorms to the region, according to the National Weather Service.

While Thursday’s high hovers in the low 90s, and the weekend will start just below that, the pattern change will bring temperature peaks down to the mid-70s by Saturday. There is a 40% chance of rain Sunday and a high of 71 degrees, according to the seven-day forecast.

Temperatures will stay in the low to upper 70s into next week, with overnight lows in the 50s.

Most of interior Northern California will see less than a quarter-inch of rain from Saturday night to Monday morning, according to the weather service, though the foothills and mountains may get more.

Rain could begin in the foothills as soon as Saturday night. Highs in the Tahoe region will be in the mid 50s as showers hit this weekend. There is a “slight chance” in South Lake Tahoe of snow Monday through at least Wednesday, when the snow level will drop as low as 6,800 feet, according to the weather service’s Reno office.
