Over 200 roaches found at Sacramento County butcher shop. Here are latest health reports

Monthly restaurant inspections

This week, a Sacramento-area butcher shop was closed due to contamination and 10 other businesses received yellow placards, according to health inspection reports.

A yellow placard signals two or more major violations, according to the Sacramento County Food Inspection Guide. These are typically corrected or mitigated during the inspection. A red placard signals “imminent danger to public health and safety” and suspends the health permit until violations are corrected. This could include, but is not limited to, major vermin contamination. Green means a restaurant passed the inspection.

The county conducts roughly 14,000 inspections a year, and 97% of all restaurants pass their inspections, Ken Casparis, a spokesman, previously told The Bee. About 1% of inspections result in a closure.

Last week, two establishments were still closed due to contamination on Oct. 25. Asian Pure Food Water passed reinspection and was allowed to reopen on Oct. 27 and Shams Market passed reinspection on Oct. 26.

Here are the food facility inspections for Oct. 26 through Nov. 1 as of 2 p.m. Thursday:

Red grades

Carniceria Mi Mercadito at 5637 Mack Road. in Parkway, a census-designated area north of Elk Grove, had 14 violations on Oct. 31. Some of the major violations included vermin contamination, sewage and wastewater disposal issues.

Over 200 cockroaches — dying and dead — were found inside glue traps on the floor outside a restroom storage rack, according to the Oct. 31 report.

An additional five roaches were found on a togo container box tape, and three nymph roaches were found in front of a carnitas warming case, according to the report.

Health inspectors returned on Nov. 1 and Nov. 2 for a reinspections but Carniceria Mi Mercadito did not pass.

A total of 28 dead roaches were found in various locations of the carniceria, according to the Nov. 2 inspection report.

The Bee called the shop several times for comment but could not get through to representatives.
