Cockroaches, moldy floor and no hot water: Latest Sacramento County restaurant inspections
This week’s roundup of inspections resulted in two closures due to cockroach contamination and one due to a broken water heater — six other establishments in Sacramento County were given yellow placards.
A yellow placard signals two or more major violations, according to the Sacramento County Food Inspection Guide. These are typically corrected or mitigated during the inspection. A red placard signals “imminent danger to public health and safety” and suspends the health permit until violations are corrected. This could include, but is not limited to, major vermin contamination. Green means a restaurant passed the inspection.
The county conducts roughly 14,000 inspections a year, and 97% of all restaurants pass their inspections, Ken Casparis, a spokesman, previously told The Bee. About 1% of inspections result in a closure.
Last week, Carniceria Mi Mercadito closed due to contamination on Oct. 31. The butcher shop passed reinspection on Nov. 6.
Here are the food facility inspections for Nov. 2 through Nov. 8 as of 2 p.m. Thursday:

Health inspection closures
Manderes at 1004 E. Bidwell St. in Folsom was shut down on Nov. 8. The inspection report cited four violations, one of which included ware-washing and sanitizing procedures. This resulted in the restaurant closure.
“Facility is now closed until hot water is provided,” stated the Nov. 8 report.
The hot water heater broke and is currently being worked on, said owner Brent Whited.
Teriyaki Grill at 1735 Arden Way in Sacramento had six violations on Nov. 8. A major violation included contamination.
One live German cockroach was found near a grill below a counter crevice, according to the Nov. 8 inspection report. Ten other dead roaches were found on the shelves of the main facility food area.
The restaurant passed reinspection Thursday. The owner was not available for comment when The Bee called Thursday afternoon.
Mandarin Restaurant at 4321 Arden Way in Arden Arcade had 23 violations, two of which included contamination and improper sewage and wastewater disposal.
Six live German cockroaches were found underneath a prep counter by a steam table area that was across from cook’s line, according to the Nov. 2 inspection report.
There was also a “clogged floor sink at a server’s station,” according to the report. Violations also included a moldy floor, tub and dish rack in areas there was no food contact.
The owner was not available for comment, but the restaurant has since reopened after passing a reinspection on Nov. 3.
