A new barbecue restaurant with ties to two popular Sacramento eateries is finally opening at Elk Grove’s Old Town.

Slow and Low Smokehouse will start welcoming customers at 9700 Railroad St. in Elk Grove on Saturday, June 1, according to its Instagram post.

“We have poured every ounce of ourselves into this one and we can’t wait to share it with you,” operators of Slow and Low said in the post. “What to expect: delicious food with an emphasis on Texas style BBQ, a fun communal space, a giant FULL bar and lots of love.”

Low & Slow was originally slated to open in mid-March.

The restaurant had not responded to The Sacramento Bee’s requests for comment as of Monday afternoon.

Who’s running new Elk Grove restaurant?

Slow and Low is a concept by restaurateur Michael Hargis, who is also behind the popular LowBrau and Beast + Bounty restaurants in midtown Sacramento

“I’m from Texas. Not a lot of people know that. I was raised in Dallas, Texas,” Hargis told The Bee in January 2023. My dad is a very formidable smoke guy who probably makes the best ribs I’ve ever had.”

Before bringing Slow and Low to life, Hargis and chef Brock Macdonald toured barbecue restaurants in Memphis and Nashville in Tennesse, as well as Northern California.

Macdonald told The Bee that he was impressed by the flavorful and tender beef brisket served by Horn Barbecue in Oakland.

What’s on the menu at Low & SLO?

According to its posts on Instagram, menu offerings at Slow and Low will include pulled pork sandwiches, brisket, ribs, Texas-style chili and wings.

There will also be desserts, including a bourbon walnut pie.

What are barbecue joint’s open hours?

For the weekend of June 1 and 2, Low & Slow Smokehouse will be open from 5 to 9 p.m.

Starting Wednesday, June 5, the restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
