A Mexican restaurant chain recently shut down one of two of its Sacramento-area locations.
As of Tuesday morning, Costa Vida Fresh Mexican Grill at 10831 Olson Drive, Suite B, in Rancho Cordova was listed as “permanently closed,” according to Google.
The Utah-based eatery recently updated its website to confirm the closure.
It wasn’t clear Tuesday exactly when the site at the Rancho Cordova Town Center shopping mall closed and why.
However, a Roseville location remains open.
What is Costa Vida Fresh Mexican Grill? What’s on the menu?
Established in Utah in 2003, Costa Vida markets itself as a “crazy success” with recipes made daily from scratch.
Its menu features build-your-own burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas, tacos, nachos and Baja bowls.
The limited dessert menu includes tres leches, cake soaked in milk syrup, key lime pie and chocolate chip cookies.
Also available are tortillas grilled with butter and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar.
Customers choose from drinks such as horchata, sweetened rice milk with cinnamon and a variety of Mexican-style lemonades.
Locals react to Rancho Cordova restaurant closure
On social media, locals reacted to Costa Vida Fresh Mexican Grill’s decision to close its Rancho Cordova location, sharing anecdotes about their go-to spot.
“I’m heartbroken this location is permanently closed,” Shari E. of Sacramento wrote on popular review website Yelp on July 20. “The food was amazing. It’s my favorite burrito place.”
Yelp user Myrna G. recently called news of the closure “sad.”
“The people that worked there were very friendly. The food was very good,” she wrote, adding that the sweet pork burritos and tacos were her favorite.
Yelp users rated the Rancho Cordova location an average 3.2 stars, saying that it offered a clean and family-friendly atmosphere with “yummy” food.

Costa Vida has a total of 96 locations across the United States and Canada, according to its website.
Costa Vida Fresh Mexican Grill has two remaining locations open in California: at 1475 Eureka Road in Roseville and 1074 Harter Road in Yuba City.
