Rain is headed to Sacramento in time for the Veterans Day holiday weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Showers could begin falling as early as Monday morning, the agency said.

The capital region could see up to a quarter inch of rain, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Eric Kurth.

“On Veterans Day, we are still seeing that potential for rain spreading in,” Kurth told The Sacramento Bee. “Starting in the relatively early morning and probably coming most likely in the afternoon hours. And then we should see it decreasing Monday night in intensity.”

Here’s what to expect ahead of the holiday:

Will Sierra Nevada see snow?

Kurth said the Sierra Nevada could see some snowfall over the Veterans Day weekend.

“We’re looking at some inches of accumulated snow,” Kurth said. “We’ve seen some fluctuation in exact amounts, but it does look like a pretty good potential for seeing at least a few inches of snow.”

According to Kurth, 1 to 6 inches of snow are expected to accumulate above 6,000 feet.

People planning on traveling over the holiday weekend should “be alert that they could get some winter driving conditions,” Kurth said, particularly on Monday in the afternoon and early evening.

“Anybody who is traveling on Monday in particular should be just on the alert and stay tuned to our forecast.
