Southern California acai bowl chain opens first Sacramento-area spot. What’s on the menu?
A Southern California-based health food chain just opened its first Sacramento-area location.
Tru Bowl Superfood Bar celebrated its soft opening Monday at 420 Palladio Parkway, Suite 1701, in Folsom.
“We’re so thrilled to kick off our soft opening … and warmly welcome you in,” Tru Bowl Folsom announced in an Instagram post.
Sacramento native Lindai Do, who owns the Folsom acai bowl shop with husband Cassidy Chan, said she first discovered Tru Bowl as a customer.
“It’s super popular down there” in Southern California, said Do, who lived in the region for eight years or so. “My husband (and) my whole family have been in the food industry. We wanted to open one because we love it so much.”
What is Tru Bowl Superfood Bar?
Based in Whittier, Tru Bowl Superfood Bar offers healthy,vegan-friendly selections such as acai bowls, juice and fruit smoothies.
The company’s goal is to encourage fundamental health principles by focusing on pure, clean eating with healthy ingredients, according to its website.
The chain has a total of 12 locations, including 10 in California. There are also two smoothie shops in Arizona.
Tru Bowl’s locations have more than 1,555 Yelp reviews collectively, with an average four-star rating.
Where is new Folsom restaurant?
The Folsom Tru Bowl will be the company’s first location in Northern California.
It’s at the Palladio shopping center in Folsom, next to Vampire Penguin dessert shop and Seaquest Folsom aquarium.
The new restaurant will have nine employees, according to a Palladio news release.
Do has two children — a 2-year-old and a 5-month-old — and said she wants to provide healthy eating options for the community.
“Folsom is a extremely family-oriented community,” Do said. “I just know how important it is to offer healthy alternatives versus ... ice cream or cakes or cookies.”
“I always look for something (healthy) for my kids when we’re going out and I hope that this establishment can be a go-to for our families out there,” she said.
What’s on the menu? What are prices?
According to its website, Tru Bowl’s customizable bowls combine layers of flavorful bases, fresh fruits and superfoods such as peanut butter, almonds and pumpkin seeds.
For instance, the EZ-Tru signature bowl combines Brazilian acai, cold oats, chia pudding and hemp granola with strawberries, bananas and blueberries.
The Island Bowl has pitaya, pineapple, mango, coconut, goji berries and more.
Drinks offered at Tru Bowl range from cold press juices, ginger wellness shots, lemonade refreshers and organic brewed coffee or matcha.
Prices for menu options range from $4.99 for a wellness shot to $15 for a signature bowl.
“I’m sure people will love it,” Do said. “I fell in love with them in So-Cal. I’m so glad that we can bring it here for the people (in the Sacramento area).”
What are open hours?
The store’s regular open hours will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Do said.
