An inmate died Tuesday after she was transferred to a hospital last week and diagnosed with a terminal medical condition, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

A 54-year-old woman complained to deputies Thursday that she felt pain and was evaluated by medical staff at the Sacramento County Main Jail before deputies took her to a hospital, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

The woman suffered from an undisclosed medical issue that was fatal. Her family was alerted to the woman’s condition and deputies arranged for them to speak before her death, the news release said.

The woman had been in custody since Aug. 8, the release said. Her identity had not been released as of Tuesday afternoon, and the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release her name.

The Sheriff’s Office will investigate her death, the release said.
