Woman riding bike dies after south Sacramento collision with a car, CHP says
A woman riding a bicycle died after a collision Saturday with a vehicle in south Sacramento, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officers with the CHP’s South Sacramento office went just before 7 a.m. to 65th Street and Florin Road for reports of a collision and saw a bicyclist suffering major injuries, according to a Tuesday news release.
A 41-year-old man drove a 2016 BMW south on 65th Street at about 45 mph. A 31-year-old woman riding an Electra manual bike attempted to cross the street when she rode directly into the driver’s path, the CHP said.
The driver braked his vehicle to avoid the collision, but the front of the BMW still struck the bicyclist, the CHP said.
Firefighters rendered medical aid and took the woman to a hospital. The CHP was told Monday that the woman died, the release said.
The woman will be identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office after her family has been notified.
