Bicyclist ejected, killed after crash with SUV in Sacramento County, CHP says

Roadway fatality

A bicyclist died Thursday after being ejected during a collision with a vehicle in Sacramento County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A Ford Bronco driver was headed north on Northgate Boulevard, just south of Del Paso Road, and approached the bicyclist. A man in his 40s pedaled his bicycle also heading north on Northgate Boulevard and was possibly in a bicycle lane, said Officer Justin Fetterly, a spokesman with the CHP’s North Sacramento office.

For unknown reasons, the bicyclist veered into the path of the SUV, driven by a man in his 20s, and the collision occurred, Fetterly said. The incident happened just outside Sacramento city limits, near Natomas Park.

The Ford Bronco’s front hit the bicyclist, causing the man to be ejected from his bike. He then crashed into the hood and windshield of the SUV, Fetterly said.

He was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead, Fetterly said. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will identify the man after his family has been notified.

The SUV driver was not injured and stayed on scene during the investigation, authorities said.
