Pedestrian fatality

A man in a wheelchair was fatally struck by a sedan on Watt Avenue in North Highlands on Friday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision occurred when man in his 40s, driving southbound on Watt just north of Roseville Road in the sedan, collided with the pedestrian, who was in his late 20s, said Officer Justin Fetterly, spokesman for the CHP’s North Sacramento office.

The pedestrian was transported to the hospital with major injuries and was later pronounced dead, Fetterly said.

The CHP said the driver is cooperating with the investigation, and no drugs or alcohol are suspected. The circumstances leading to the collision and why the pedestrian was in the traffic lane remain under investigation.
