Speed believed to be a factor in Elk Grove single-vehicle crash that killed teen, police say
A teenage driver died Wednesday after a vehicle crashed in an Elk Grove neighborhood, police said.
A 17-year-old boy going west on Big Horn Boulevard died in a single-vehicle collision after hitting a tree, said Sgt. Jason Jimenez, a spokesman for the Elk Grove Police Department. The driver left the roadway just east of Frye Creek Drive near Amber Creek Drive, police said.
In an update issued Thursday, Jimenez said investigators believe the teenager died after speeding.
The crash is still under investigation, Jimenez noted.
