Were you or someone you know affected by the North Highlands apartments fire? There’s help
Sacramento County will open a local assistance center Sunday in North Highlands for the dozens displaced in a destructive blaze that gutted a North Highlands apartment complex late Tuesday.
At the local assistance center to open inside the North Highlands Community Center, 6040 Watt Ave., residents can find support and resources from a number of state and county agencies and private nonprofit organizations. The center will be open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.
More than 40 people at the Estate Apartments at 3651 A St., were chased from the wind-swept inferno that overwhelmed the complex and sent three people to the hospital. More than 85 firefighters battled the flames into early Wednesday.
The American Red Cross opened a shelter to provide an immediate roof and beds for the complex’s residents as this week’s storm bore down on the Sacramento region.
Sacramento County’s Office of Emergency Services and Department of Human Assistance will be available as well as the county’s Community Support Team and Clerk/Recorder’s office, which handles birth and marriage certificates and other vital records. State agencies include the Office of Emergency Services, the Department of Insurance and Department of Motor Vehicles.
The Salvation Army, American Red Cross, Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services and Law Enforcement Chaplaincy Sacramento also are slated to provide services.
