Nugget Markets to open new grocery location at this Sacramento-area intersection next year

Nugget Markets is coming to Granite Bay next year.

The Davis-based specialty grocer announced plans to open the location at Douglas and Sierra College boulevards in late summer 2025 in a space once occupied by a Walmart Neighborhood Market. The site will be the family-owned chain’s 18th location and fourth in Placer County. Nugget broke ground earlier this year for a Rocklin store slated to open in fall 2025.

“We’ve wanted to be part of this community for many years,” said Greg Hill, Nugget Markets CEO, in a statement announcing the plans. “We’re looking forward to the long-term relationships we’ll develop with our Granite Bay guests by providing the exceptional quality and service Nugget Market is known for.”

West Sacramento developer Engstrom Properties Development Group is teaming with Nugget on the project and will be “planning an entire makeover of the shopping center.” Engstrom has a number of Nugget Markets locations in its portfolio including sites in Davis, Elk Grove, Roseville, Vacaville and West Sacramento.

“Our goal, once we have remodeled the center, is for it to quickly become the gathering place or ‘town center’ of the Granite Bay neighborhood,” said Eric Stille, Nugget Markets’ chairman of the board and growth officer.

The Sierra Oaks Plaza, on the 4000 block of Douglas Boulevard, also houses a Crunch Fitness, Habit Burger Grill and Chick-Fil-A.
