Dense fog advisory issued in Northern California, including Sacramento, Modesto and Merced
The National Weather Service issued a dense fog advisory for early Thursday morning throughout a large swath of Northern California’s Central Valley, including Sacramento, Modesto and Merced.
The fog was expected to begin to develop late Wednesday. The weather service dense fog advisory was issued for 1 to 9 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day. The conditions were expected to gradually improve in the mid- to late-morning, according to the weather service in Sacramento.
Forecasters advised drivers and other travelers that patches of dense fog were expected to reduce visibility to less than a quarter-mile Thursday morning.
The weather serviced warned drivers to allow extra time to reach their destinations, slow down, increase distance behind other vehicles as highway visibility will be reduced. Drivers also were urged to set their headlights at low-beam, because the high beams create a glare and make it difficult to see what’s ahead.
The dense fog advisory also included the cities of Marysville, Yuba City, Chico, Oroville, Stockton, Fairfield and Suisun City. The dense fog was expected in portions of the central and southern Sacramento Valley and northern San Joaquin Valley; primarily east of Interstate 5.
