Woman dies at hospital after fire sweeps through home on Briarcliff Drive in Folsom
A woman has died after a fire broke out at a Folsom home early Friday.
Folsom Fire Department crews were called to the home in the 100 block of Briarcliff Drive near Rugosa Drive about 2:08 a.m., joined by firefighters from the El Dorado Hills Fire Department and Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.
The blaze was well involved as crews arrived, Folsom fire officials said, with flames showing in the rear of the home in the Natomas Heights neighborhood.
Firefighters attacked the blaze, finding the victim, described as a woman in her early 80s, inside the single-story home where crews said she was trapped by the flames. Fire officials said the home was filled with smoke from floor to ceiling. Crews tended to the woman and rushed her to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Five engine companies and two truck companies battled the blaze. Crews contained the fire about 2:20 a.m., officials said.
A firefighter who injured their knee during the call was taken to a hospital as a precautionary measure.
The cause is not yet known but Folsom fire officials say the fire appeared to have started in the home’s living room. The woman was expected to be identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office after relatives are notified of her death.
