Rain still looms in Sacramento. When will it stop? Here’s when you can ditch the umbrella

Meteorologists have predicted rain in Sacramento throughout the weekend and into early next week as weather patterns in the region continue to shift.

National Weather Service in Sacramento office meteorologist Nathan Rick said rainfall is expected to continue, but the sun could shine by the end of the weekend.

Here’s what you can expect:

How much rain has fallen in Sacramento?

Rainfall for the Sacramento area “hasn’t been too heavy,” Rick said.

“Looks like about the highest totals we’ve seen are about one-fourth inch up to about 3/10 of an inch near Roseville, with generally about 1/10 of an inch,” Rick said. “About one-fourth of an inch from Sacramento to the Interstate 80 split closer to Roseville.”

However, Rick said Friday should see “a band of a little heavier rain” move through the Sacramento Metro area and beyond.

“Through Sunday morning, we’re sitting around ¾ inch to an inch of rainfall possible in Sacramento,” Rick said.

What’s the forecast this weekend?

There’s a 50% chance of showers, mainly after 5 p.m. on Friday, according to the National Weather Service Sacramento seven-day forecast. There will be patchy fog and cloudy skies with a high near 54 degrees, and south-southeast winds around 9 mph. Gusts can reach up to 20 mph. Expected precipitation amounts are less than a 1/10 inch, the weather service said.

Rainfall continues into the night, mainly after 11 p.m., and patchy fog between midnight and 2 a.m., according to the weather service. The temperature will be a low around 50 degrees with south-southeast winds blowing 10 to 16 mph and gusts as high as 32 mph. There’s an 80% chance of rain, and amounts are expected to be between ¼ and ½ inch.

As the weekend unfolds, so do the rain clouds.

The weather agency said there will be a 100% chance of showers, between ¼ and ½ inches, mainly before 4 p.m. Saturday. The high will be near 56 degrees, with south winds of 14 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 39 mph.

The forecast predicts a calm evening as precipitation chances decrease to 30% on Saturday night. The skies will be partly cloudy, with a low of around 38 degrees and south-southwest winds of around 6 mph.

When will it stop raining in Sacramento?

There’s a break in the rain patterns that begin Saturday night into Sunday morning, said Rick.

It is expected to have “a bit of a low on Sunday,” which could lead to sunny skies, he said.

The seven-day forecast predicts Sunday will be mostly sunny with a high near 52 degrees and northwest winds between 3 and 6 mph.

But the sun won’t shine forever.

Is rain likely for Sacramento next week?

The rain will swiftly return.

“The next system is in pretty quick on Monday, and it’s currently starting to trend further northward,” Rick said. “So projections for Sacramento are close to about 1/10 to maybe a ¼ inch being the high end.”

The Sunday night forecast, leading into Monday morning, has Sacramento showers likely after 4 a.m. The skies are mostly cloudy, the temperature low is around 40 degrees and the chance of precipitation is 60%.

Continuing into Monday, the high is 50 degrees and there are expected showers, an 80% chance, mainly before 4 p.m.

Monday night is mostly cloudy, with a low of around 42 degrees. Anticipate a chance of showers, mainly before 10 p.m., the weather service said.
