Will it rain on Christmas Eve? Christmas Day?

National Weather Service meteorologist Dakari Anderson said Sacramento-area residents can expect a damp Christmas Eve on Tuesday.

“We will see rain start on Monday, the day before Christmas Eve,” Anderson told The Sacramento Bee, with “widespread valley rain and mountain snow that should begin to taper off Christmas Eve evening.”

According to the forecast, Tuesday will be mostly cloudy with a high near 59 and an overnight low around 43.

By Wednesday morning, Anderson told The Bee, there should be a “brief lull in active weather.”

That means Sacramento residents can expect a dry and mostly sunny Christmas Day.

The high will be near 55 and the low will be around 44.

The meteorologist said precipitation will return “to the mountains and eventually the valley” by Wednesday evening.

Showers are likely Thursday with a high near 53, according to the forecast.

How normal is rain in Sacramento in December?

Anderson said that cold, wet weather is standard for the capital region during this time of year.

“This is a normal weather system” in late December and early January, he said. “(It’s) not anything that would ring alarm bells.”

Anderson said the amount of rainfall expected is not “above normal or above average.”
