1 dead as major injury collision closes northbound Highway 49 in Placer County

A motorist was killed dead Monday morning after their car collided with a propane truck on Highway 49 in north Auburn, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officials said the driver of a Pontiac Firebird was heading south on Highway 49 near Joeger Road just before 6 a.m. The driver lost control of the car sending it into the path of an oncoming propane truck in the northbound lane. The driver of the Firebird died at the scene. The truck’s driver was not hurt.

Northbound Highway 49 was closed for a time as California Highway Patrol officers and Placer County sheriff’s deputies investigated the fatal wreck.
