Police tape at crime scene

Amador County Coroner’s officials have identified the man fatally shot Thursday evening during a California Highway Patrol traffic stop.

The 31-year-old man, Tyler Quentin Balaskovits, of Shingle Springs, was shot Thursday in unincorporated Amador County. The coroner’s death investigation continued Friday, Amador County sheriff’s officials said in a statement.

CHP Amador officials say the officer was called about 5:22 p.m. Thursday to a vehicle that was blocking Old Sacramento Road east of Latrobe Road.

In a statement, CHP officials said only that the patrol officer located a weapon and that the person who was shot and later identified as Balaskovits died of their wounds. The officer, who was not named, was not hurt.
