Man suspected of firing at Sacramento deputies in custody on attempted murder charges
A man who fired at Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies during a short chase late Thursday and is suspected of an earlier carjacking in San Francisco is in custody and facing attempted murder charges.
Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies first spotted a car that matched one taken in San Francisco in Rancho Cordova near Sunrise Boulevard and Coloma Road about 11 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. Deputies called for additional units before trying to pull the driver over at Winding Way and San Juan Road in Fair Oaks.
The driver sped away, firing several shots before surrendering a short time later, said sheriff’s officials.
Deputies did not return fire, an no one was hurt.
The man, later identified as Anthony Michael Hurtado, 34, was booked early Friday into Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of attempted murder and a host of other charges including being a felon in possession of a weapon, receiving stolen property, evading police and discharging a firearm. San Francisco police were also expected to pursue additional charges connected to the suspected carjacking, deputies said.
Hurtado remains held without bail ahead of a Monday arraignment in Sacramento Superior Court.
