Driver dead after vehicle and trailer catch fire in south Sacramento County collision

Roadway fatality

A driver died Tuesday after a vehicle crashed into a trailer hitched to a semitruck and burst into flames on Interstate 5 in south Sacramento County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers were alerted about 8:30 a.m. to a collision that blocked all lanes south of Twin Cities Road in Walnut Grove, according to the CHP’s online activity log.

The motorist went off the roadway and that vehicle slammed into the trailer, which led to fire completely consuming the vehicle and trailer, the CHP said.

The semitruck driver suffered no injuries, said Officer Mark Leavitt, a spokesperson with the CHP’s South Sacramento office.

Leavitt said officers were investigating why the driver veered off the roadway.
