The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office rescued a dog this weekend after it plunged about 200 feet down a waterfall and suffered injuries.

A hiker canvassing Cascade Falls, near Emerald Bay, called authorities about 10:20 a.m. Saturday to request help for his dog, Moscow. The dog suffered injuries but was alive at the bottom of the falls, the Sheriff’s Office said on social media.

“Moscow’s owner was determined to find a way down the cliff to get to Moscow,” deputies said in a Facebook post.

The Sheriff’s Office search and rescue team went to help Moscow and found the dog at the base of the waterfall. A person who was ice climbing was tending to the dog, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Rescuers strapped Moscow into their backpack and hiked out from the cliff, which was covered in slick ice. The dog was taken to an emergency veterinarian to be treated for its injuries, where authorities reported Moscow is doing “well.”
