Pedestrian in wheelchair struck and killed by vehicle while crossing south Sacramento roadway
An 81-year-old man using a wheelchair was struck and killed Saturday by a car while crossing the street in south Sacramento, the California Highway Patrol said.
Officers from the CHP’s South Sacramento office and fire personnel responded to the scene where the man suffered cuts to his hand, wrist and head. A CHP spokesperson said the man later died from his injuries.
According to the preliminary investigation, the man was crossing through the intersection of East Stockton Boulevard at Power Inn Road before 8 a.m. using a motorized wheelchair.
He was struck by a 2012 white Audi that was making a left turn from Power Inn onto Stockton. A 60-year-old woman was driving the vehicle, according to CHP spokesperson Officer Mark Leavitt.
The CHP said further investigation was needed to determine who had the right of way.
The victim’s identity was expected to be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office once relatives were informed of his death, Leavitt said.
