Two men were arrested following a police chase that ended in a vehicle crash Friday evening in Sacramento, authorities said.

Around 9:30 p.m. Friday, police spotted a vehicle “that was associated with a felony assault” from Jan. 24, according to a statement from the Sacramento Police Department.

The vehicle allegedly fled police, who gave pursuit, before ultimately crashing near 57th Avenue and Demaret Drive, close to the Golf Course Terrace and Woodbine neighborhoods, police said. Two suspects then fled on foot but were quickly detained with assistance from air support, according to the Police Department.

Police said that the driver of the vehicle was determined to have been involved with the prior assault, and that a loaded firearm was found during the investigation.

The driver, a 24-year-old Sacramento man, was arrested on charges related to the pursuit and possession of the gun, as well as for the prior felony assault. The passenger, a 28-year-old Sacramento man, was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest and firearms-related charges.

The 24-year-old remained in custody as of midday Saturday at the Sacramento County Main Jail, according to online jail records. The 28-year-old was released from jail Saturday.
