Pedestrian dies in south Sacramento collision, one of three pedestrian crashes in capital region

A 71-year-old pedestrian struck by a car Sunday evening in south Sacramento County died from her injuries, the third pedestrian to be killed on Sacramento County roadways in 2025.

California Highway Patrol officers were investigating the Vineyard neighborhood collision that happened about 6:15 p.m. at Elk Grove Florin and Robbins roads, said Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District officials.

On Monday morning, the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Nam Hoa Chiem, 71, of Vineyard.

Metro Fire crews were called to the intersection of Elk Grove Florin and Robbins and pronounced Chiem dead at the scene, said fire officials.

The deadly collision was one of at least three involving pedestrians Sunday in the capital region.

In Rancho Cordova, a hit-and-run driver struck a pedestrian at Rob Beaudry Drive and Sierra Glen Way leaving the man with life-threatening injuries, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said. Sheriff’s deputies who were called to the scene just before 6:30 p.m. Sunday were searching for the driver.

About 15 minutes later, about 6:45 p.m. Sunday, Roseville police responded to a hit-and-run collision that injured a pedestrian on Harding Boulevard near Douglas Boulevard. Police say the man was alert when medical crews arrived and he was transported to a nearby hospital with unknown injuries.

According to the Coroner’s Office, 51 pedestrians died on Sacramento County roadways in 2024.
