One person hospitalized, 2 cats rescued in Orangevale house fire; cause under investigation
A fire at an Orangevale home Monday morning sent an occupant to the hospital before firefighters knocked down the blaze.
Three people and two cats were inside the home in the 5900 block of Chestnut Avenue when the fire broke out just before 8:30 a.m., said Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District officials. One of the residents suffered smoke inhalation injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital; the other occupants were not injured, firefighters said.
Firefighters also freed and resuscitated the two cats that were inside the home, officials said.
The fire reportedly started in a back room and spread to the attic. Metro Fire personnel controlled the blaze just before 9 a.m., stopping its spread to neighboring homes, officials said.
The fire’s cause remains under investigation.
