Swift water rescuers free motorist from flooded Scott Road in eastern Sacramento County

Firefighters rescued a stranded driver from a flooded Scott Road in Sloughhouse as storms soaked the Sacramento region Wednesday night.

The driver became stranded about 7 p.m. Wednesday as a rain-swollen Deer Creek overflowed onto Scott and Payen roads, said Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District officials. The woman was not hurt in the rescue.

Crews made their way to the woman from the Folsom side of Scott Road as entry from the Rancho Murieta side was cut off by the high water.

The fast-moving Deer Creek trapped the woman inside her Jeep, but fire crews pulled her from the vehicle about 7:30 p.m. and were able to free the car from the swift water.

Metro Fire officials said the Scott Road incident was a reminder for motorists to mind overtopped and flooded roads.

“It only takes as little as 6 inches of swift-moving water for a vehicle to get pushed around or stalled out,” Metro Fire Capt. Mark Nunez said Wednesday. “Tonight, our victim was fortunate that the river wasn’t higher as it could have made the rescue that much more difficult for crews.”
