Drowning incident depicts emergency personnel in boats on water

Authorities have released the name of a Sacramento man who died Sunday after a wave swept him into the ocean while standing on rocks along the coast in Salt Point State Park in Sonoma County.

Shanglong Tang, 43, died despite attempts to revive him after he was pulled from the water, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident was reported as a water rescue about 10:40 a.m. Sunday at the rocks beach of Gerstle Cove in the state park about 50 miles west of Santa Rosa.

Sheriff’s officials said two males, including Shanglong Tang, were standing on rocks along the coast when a wave swept Tang out to sea.

A sheriff’s helicopter and its crew arrived, spotted Tang in the water and recovered him. Sheriff’s officials said the helicopter crew flew Tang back to shore, where medics performed CPR on Tang who was pronounced dead about 45 minutes after the incident was reported.
