Authorities on Friday night rescued two youths who were stranded along one side of the Mokelumne River near the PG&E Electra Powerhouse in Amador County.

About 8:15 p.m., crews from the Amador Fire Protection District responded to a call for a water rescue in the remote area along Electra Road near the Pacific Gas and Electric Co. powerhouse a few miles southeast of Jackson.

Among those responding were the Amador Fire Swift Water Rescue Team, which is made up of firefighters and Amador County Sheriff’s officials, Amador Fire officials said Friday night in a series of Facebook posts.

Fire officials said the two minors were on the Calaveras County side of the Mokelumne River, which was inaccessible to the rescue team, so they approached them from the Amador County side of the river.

Officials from the Jackson Fire Department, the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office and PG&E assisted in the water rescue.

Fire officials asked PG&E to reduce water flow from the nearby powerhouse to lower the river level and help the rescue team reach the stranded youths.

Shortly after 10 p.m. Friday, Amador Fire officials announced they had completed the water rescue and both youths were out of the water and safely on the shore with no reported injuries.

It’s unclear how the two youths became stranded in the river. Fire officials did not release any further details about the rescue.
