23-year-old man dies in Northern California head-on collision on Highway 65, CHP says

Roadway fatality

A 23-year-old Yuba County man died in a head-on collision just outside of Wheatland Friday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A preliminary investigation showed the man was driving a white Nissan Altima headed south on Highway 65 at an unknown speed in Placer County, said Officer Mike Hamilton, a spokesperson with the CHP’s Auburn office.

For unknown reasons, the man crossed into opposing traffic about 9:15 a.m. and collided into a black Chevrolet pickup truck near Wheatland Road, Hamilton said. He died in the collision.

The Chevrolet driver, a 39-year-old Roseville man, was taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center with moderate injuries, he said.

Intoxicated driving is not suspected, Hamilton said, but the investigation is still ongoing.
