Motorcycle rider killed in Highway 49 crash in Nevada County, CHP says

Roadway fatality

A motorcycle rider died Sunday night after colliding with a pickup truck on Highway 49 in Nevada County, and reckless driving is under investigation as a potential cause.

A 43-year-old man from North San Juan was driving a Kawasaki motorcycle north on Highway 49 near Reader Ranch Road where the crash occurred with a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, also driven by a 43-year-old man, said California Highway Patrol Officer Justin Reed, a spokesperson for the CHP’s Grass Valley office.

The crash, which occurred in the northbound lane, was reported about 5:50 p.m. and may have followed previous reports of the motorcycle rider weaving into the opposite side of the highway, Reed said.

The truck driver, who was not suspected of driving under the influence, had complaints of pain, Reed said.

The identity of the motorcyclist was expected to be released by the Nevada County Coroner’s Office.

The investigation into the crash continues, the CHP said.
