Hot Topic is closing Sacramento-area clothing store with ‘final sale.’ Here’s when and where
Trendy clothing store chain Hot Topic is closing one of its four Sacramento-area locations.
The retailer will shut the doors of its store at Sunrise Mall shopping center in Citrus Heights in March, store representatives confirmed via social media.
“We love you guys so much and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting us here at Sunrise Mall,” the store representatives wrote in a Feb. 27 Instagram post. “We are going to miss you all so much!”
Management for the Hot Topic location told the Citrus Heights Sentinel that the decision to close came from the corporate office.
What is Hot Topic?
Hot Topic has sold band-related apparel and accessories, plus other pop culture licensed merchandise, primarily in malls since 1990, the company said on its website.
According to the website, Hot Topic has more than 600 locations in the United States and abroad.

Hot Topic’s last day of business at Sunrise Mall will be Wednesday, March 26, the store confirmed in the Instagram post.
A closing sale began on Feb. 28, with all items sold marked as “final sale.”
Hot Topic representatives encouraged customers stopping by the store to “sign our poster board to say goodbye to the team here.”
What else has closed at Sunrise shopping center?
Hot Topic’s closure comes soon after the departures of other stores from Sunrise Mall.
In January, Macy’s announced that it would close its department stores in Citrus Heights and downtown Sacramento, The Sacramento Bee reported at the time. The retail chain planned to shut a total of 66 stores across the United States.
Since December 2023, a number of restaurants and retailers closed their locations at Sunrise Mall, the Citrus Heights Sentinel previously reported. Recent closures include:

- Najia Cuisine
- Tilly’s
- Zumiez
In 2019, Citrus Heights officials began working on the “Sunrise Tomorrow” plan, which would revitalize the mall site with more than 2,000 units of housing, restaurants, breweries, an outdoor entertainment venue and more, the Sacramento Bee previously reported.
