A Sacramento man has pleaded guilty to robbing postal carriers last summer and then fleeing from the scene on a bicycle, authorities said Friday.

William Carl Jackson faces up to 25 years in prison and a $250,000 fine in the robberies, which took place on July 11 and July 31, the indictment by a federal grand jury in Sacramento shows.

He pleaded to one count of “robbery of mail matter” on March 7, a plea agreement filed with the court shows.

Jackson was initially indicted on four counts of robbery, assault and illegal possession of mail keys in the two incidents.

When he was arrested in November, Jackson was in a car with another person, where Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies also found a printer and counterfeit $2, $5, $10, $20 and $100 bills. A fake pistol was also in the car, according to prosecutors.

Jackson was on probation at the time, prosecutors said, but had not checked in with authorities since June.

In the plea agreement, Jackson admitted that he had brandished the fake “black and tan” pistol at a postal carrier who was trying to deliver mail to a community mailbox in Sacramento, demanding the keys to the mailboxes. He later attempted to sell a set of mailbox keys on the app Telegram.

The agreement says that Jackson also stole mailbox keys from a postal carrier attempting to deliver mail to an apartment complex in Sacramento.

Jackson, 36, will be sentenced on June 13, according to prosecutors. The case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the U.S. Attorney’s office in Sacramento said in a news release.
