Pedestrian dies after car crash in Rancho Cordova; driver stayed at scene

Pedestrian fatality

A pedestrian was killed Thursday morning after being struck by a vehicle in Rancho Cordova, authorities said.

The collision occurred about 6:25 a.m. at the intersection of Mather Field Road and International Drive, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. The crash forced road closures in the area for several hours.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with deputies, the Sheriff’s Office said. Authorities indicated that drugs and alcohol were likely not a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

The pedestrian will be identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office after relatives are notified of the death.

By 9 a.m., one westbound lane of International Drive had reopened to northbound Mather Field Road, but traffic on the southbound side remained diverted, the Sheriff’s Office said.
