Drowning incident depicts emergency personnel in boats on water

Authorities are investigating a possible drowning after the body of a man was recovered from the Sacramento River near the Freeport Marina on Sunday afternoon.

A person on a boat at the marina spotted the body in the water and alerted authorities shortly after 3:30 p.m., according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies and emergency crews responded to the area at the 8200 block of Freeport Boulevard for a recovery operation.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will determine the official cause of death and release his identity after notifying family.

Deputies said the death did not appear suspicious but said that the cause remains under investigation.
