A pickup truck colliding with a pole Saturday in Carmichael led to four people being taken to the hospital, California Highway Patrol officials said.

The crash happened near the intersection of Walnut and Laurelview avenues at roughly 11:30 a.m. Saturday, according to Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District Capt. Mark Nunez. Fire crews responded to a call and found a pickup truck that had “sheared off a power pole,” Nunez said.

The driver required crews to remove him from the vehicle while three other passengers were able to exit on their own. All four inside the truck went to the hospital for evaluation, authorities said.

According to CHP North Sacramento spokesman Officer Justin Fetterly, a sedan made an unsafe lane change on while traveling north on Walnut Avenue, which collided with the truck heading in the same direction, leading to it running into the pole. The sedan fled the scene, he said. The truck running into the pole may have caused some in the area to lose power.
