A Sacramento man was arrested after a late-night standoff with Sacramento police that stretched into the pre-dawn hours Friday.

The unidentified man surrendered to Sacramento police just before 6 a.m. in the 4400 block of 71st Street in the city’s Colonial Heights neighborhood, hours after a gunshot sent a SWAT team to his home.

The ordeal began at about 11:30 p.m. Friday, Sacramento Police Department officials said in a statement posted to social media, soon after officers were called to the home on reports of a disturbance.

Officers called in crisis negotiators and a police tactical team aboard armored vehicles to coax the barricaded man out of the home, a police spokesperson told reporters. The stalemate stretched into the early morning hours as police evacuated nearby residents and told others to shelter in place.

At about 5:40 a.m., the man walked out of the home without incident and was taken into police custody, police said.
