Davis police searching for multiple people accused in Picnic Day shooting
Investigators are searching for multiple shooters who fired into a crowd of hundreds — injuring three — at a local park during a party last weekend at UC Davis’ Picnic Day, the Davis Police Department said Thursday.
Two teenagers and a 24-year-old person suffered what police described as “non-life threatening” wounds Saturday after gunfire broke out at Community Park during UC Davis’ flagship celebration. Picnic Day brings about 70,000 people annually to the city. A fraternity hosted a party at Community Park off campus that drew hundreds of people.
The Police Department, which has faced growing calls from community members to release information about suspects, said “evidence” shows more than one shooter was “involved in the incident,” according to a news release. Detectives, who police said have interviewed multiple witnesses, said one of the suspects is a Black man between 20 to 25 years old.
He is under 6 feet tall, with an average build, police said. He was wearing a black hoodie, black pants and a face mask, police said.
The shooters appear to live outside of Davis, police said.
