Man dies and driver flees after suspected Sacramento hit and run

A man was killed Saturday night in a hit-and-run near Lemon Hill Avenue and the 65th Street Expressway in south Sacramento.

Officers responded to the area just after 8:30 p.m. and found the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, said Officer Anthony Gamble, Sacramento police spokesperson.

The driver suspected of hitting the man, who has not yet been identified, fled before police arrived, Gamble said.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives and crime scene investigators took over the scene and continue to investigate, authorities said Sunday.

The victim was identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as 26-year-old William Andrew Akens.
