Pedestrian fatally struck by vehicle in North Highlands collision

A pedestrian was struck and killed Monday night in North Highlands, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened just before 9:45 p.m. on Madison Avenue between Roseville Road and Jackson Street, the CHP’s North Sacramento office reported. Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District paramedics called to the scene pronounced the pedestrian dead.

CHP officials said it was not known what led to the fatal collision. The vehicle’s driver was not arrested and cooperated with authorities.

The pedestrian was identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as 34-year-old Richard Ruben Betterley.
