Suspect arrested in West Sacramento park shooting that killed 16-year-old boy
Detectives on Thursday arrested a suspect in a shooting that killed a 16-year-old boy Wednesday afternoon at a West Sacramento park.
The teen was struck by gunfire in the shooting reported shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday at Summerfield Park located at 2950 Linden Road, just west of Jefferson Boulevard in West Sacramento.
The detectives arrested a Sacramento man as the suspect in Wednesday’s deadly shooting, said Taylor Nelson, a spokesperson for the West Sacramento Police Department. The 19-year-old man was listed in custody at the Yolo County Jail, but the criminal charges he’s facing were not available.
Police said officers responding to reports of the park shooting arrived at the scene and found the wounded teen, who was taken by ambulance to a hospital. He succumb to his injuries and died later at the hospital.
The Yolo County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Adrian Carter, a Sacramento resident.
Police said detectives investigating the deadly shooting obtained an arrest warrant and a search warrant for the identified suspect. On Thursday morning, the detectives served the warrants at a Sacramento County home linked to the suspect. The suspect was found in the home and arrested.
Police said investigators questioned the suspect at the Police Department, before they booked the suspect at the Yolo County Jail.
In a Facebook post announcing the suspect’s arrest, the Police Department did not release any further details about the homicide investigation.
“The investigation into the circumstances surrounding this shooting is ongoing,” police said in Thursday’s Facebook post. “We mourn with our community over this tragedy and will continue to work with county partners to ensure justice is served.”
