Popular Lake Tahoe beach is requiring reservations in 2025. See how to book yours
One of Lake Tahoe’s most popular beaches just made a big change for visitors.
The popular Sand Harbor at Incline Village, Nevada, now requires reservations to help manage busy summer crowds, according to the Nevada Division of State Parks.
The day-use reservation system was first introduced for a trial period in 2024.
It aims to improve visitors’ experience “while protecting the park’s natural beauty and resources,” officials said.
“The day-use reservations have proven to be an effective way to enhance the visitor experience and manage capacity at one of our busiest state parks,” Bob Mergell, administrator of the Nevada Division of State Parks, said in a news release. “We’re excited to move forward with the full implementation to better serve our guests and protect Sand Harbor’s natural environment.”
If you’re planning a visit to Sand Harbor in 2025, here’s what you need to know:
When does Lake Tahoe beach open for the season?
Though Lake Tahoe officials have announced the reopening of popular recreation sites for spring and summer, the U.S. Forest Service says each area must be cleared of snow-related hazards and have working water systems before fully opening.
Until then, visitors should expect limited services — including no trash bins, restrooms, or parking — at some locations and are asked to take their trash with them and clean up after pets.
As of Thursday, May 8, Sand Harbor was open to visitors, according to Nevada State Parks.
When I need a reservation to visit Sand Harbor in 2025?
Sand Harbor will require day-use reservations during its peak season, which began April 15 and runs through Wednesday, Oct. 15.
Visitors arriving by vehicle between 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. must book in advance to enter the park.
After 10:30 a.m., any unclaimed spots will open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.
Can I book a reservation online? What’s the price?
Visitors can make reservations online.
Reservations will cost $5, according to the release. Same-day booking fees are waived.
How much do park entrance fees cost?
Park entrance fees start at $10, or $15 for non-Nevada vehicles, and are payable by cash only.
Sand Harbor opens at 7 a.m. and closes one hour after sunset.
