Opening dates announced for popular beaches and campgrounds in Lake Tahoe area
Officials in the Lake Tahoe area this week announced the opening of recreational sites that figure to be popular places to visit during the remainder of spring and the upcoming summer.
The U.S. Forest Service’s Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit said in a news release that sites must be cleaned up after the snow melts to remove safety hazards and allow water systems for bathrooms must be restored.
Additionally, parking, trash and restrooms won’t be available at each site until they are fully open. Patrons until then are expected to pack out all trash and pick up after their pets.
Pets are not allowed at designated swim areas for safety reasons and must be on a 6-foot leash where allowed. Areas where pets are not permitted include Baldwin, Camp Richardson, Meeks Bay, Nevada, Pope, William Kent, and Zephyr Cove beaches. The Forest Service offers more information on where to take pets on its website.
