South Lake Tahoe girl, 13, dies after e-bike collision with SUV

A 13-year-old girl who was seriously injured in a bicycle collision Saturday morning in South Lake Tahoe has died from her injuries, the California Highway Patrol confirmed.

The teen, a South Lake Tahoe resident, was riding an electric bicycle when she was struck by an Acura MDX at the intersection of Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Sawmill Road. CHP said the incident occurred shortly before noon.

According to a CHP news release, the impact threw the girl into the air, where she collided with a roadside “snow-paddle marker.” She was transported to Barton Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries and later transferred to Renown Medical Center in Reno, Nevada.

CHP officials said they were notified of her death at 2:55 p.m. Sunday by the Washoe County Coroner’s Office. The girl’s name has not been released.

The driver of the Acura, a 56-year-old woman from South Lake Tahoe, remained at the scene. Authorities have not announced any arrests or citations.
