See Athletics players visit Sacramento SPCA to meet some animals you can adopt

In their first collaboration with a nonprofit in Sacramento, players from the Athletics visited the Sacramento SPCA to take a tour of the facility and meet furry friends who are available for adoption.

Pitchers Tyler Ferguson, Mitch Spence and Mason Miller, joined by Miller’s wife Jordan and team mascot Stomper, spent their morning playing with kittens and petting pups who are in need of new homes.

Sacramento SPCA CEO Jennifer Brent was delighted to welcome the players to the facility.

“It is huge to have an organization like the A’s come and spend time with us here,” she said. “It sheds light on the need for homes for adoptable animals and also brings attention on all the animals that are waiting for homes.”

Along with some kittens, the players met Patches, age 6, and Coco, age 10. The two dogs have been at the shelter for about three months, and both have had their adoption fees waived as the shelter urgently seeks to have them adopted.

In addition to adoptions, the SPCA offers a variety of services for pets like vaccinations and low-cost spay and neuter surgeries. Tyler Ferguson, who has lived in Sacramento with his wife for five years, previously brought their two dogs to the facility at 6201 Florin Perkins Road for their rabies vaccines.

“It’s great to just be a part of the community. We’ve met some awesome dogs that have been here for a little while and need a good home,” Ferguson said.

The adoption center’s hours are 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
